IBM, Intel, Qualcomm join dozens of tech companies to argue against net neutrality

The debate over net neutrality got a touch more heated this week as IBM, Intel, and Qualcomm joined companies like Broadcom, Panasonic, and Juniper Networks to collectively ask the government not to invoke Title II — i.e the common carrier provision — in an attempt to enforce net neutrality. In a joint letter to Congress and the FCC itself, the companies collectively argue that proposed regulation under Title II would damage corporate competitiveness, network upgrades, and the overall customer experience. They aren’t subtle, either — the letter argues that:<br />

Reversing course now by shifting to Title II means that instead of billions of broadband investment driving other sectors of the economy forward, any reduction in this spending will stifle growth across the entire economy. This is not idle speculation or fear mongering.<br />

Unfortunately for the authors of the letter, recent remarks by both Verizon and AT&T have blown apart the previous posturing claims that one or both companies would sharply reduce its investment in infrastructure if Title II were to pass. After initially attempting to argue that Title II would be disastrous, both firms have backed off or repudiated such statements. Readers may recall that during its failed bid to buy T-Mobile, AT&T threatened to never build out 4G LTE networks if it didn’t receive permission to buy the smaller company. After failing to secure permission, AT&T… went right on building out its 4G LTE capacity.<br />

Dig into the supporting documents, and it’s astonishing how quickly such facts change. When Comcast went to court in 2011 to defend its proposed merger with NBC, it specifically argued that Time Warner was a significant competitor and that it needed to merge with NBC to more effectively challenge the media titan. Fast forward to 2014, and suddenly Comcast and Time Warner don’t compete at all.<br />

There is a demonstrated link between higher bandwidth speeds and economic growth, and the rise of services like Netflix are proof that the broad availability of higher speeds can fuel new business models. What’s less talked about, however, is whether America’s broadband policies actually work against the economic uplift that higher bandwidth offers by encouraging service stratification and narrow buildouts into high-end markets, while middle- and lower-class areas are left with bottom-end service tiers and limited availability.<br />

Furthermore, the argument that increased regulation automatically destroys competitive positioning is decisively undermined by the United States’ ranking on any number of competitive charts compared to other OECD countries. We pay more per megabit than most developed nations for both wireless and wireline service. It’s hard to argue that the United States is uniquely privileged by virtue of our regulatory environment when American wireless telcos lag worldwide deployments so dramatically. In March 2014, AT&T demonstrated an LTE-Advanced network capable of 110Mbps. Multiple European and Asian providers already offer 300Mbps capability.<br />

Data from Canada’s government comparisons illustrate this starkly. The graphs are a bit hard to read, but the United States is the maroon line sitting well above everybody else.<br />

No, wholesale government regulation and a return to the Ma Bell days of the mid-20th century isn’t the answer, but no one is proposing that kind of comprehensive regulatory scheme, least of all the FCC. While details remain unknown, the broad thrust of the argument is to apply Title II to specific areas where Section 706 has already been ruled invalid.<br />

As much as I respect the companies that signed on to this letter, they’re drawing bad conclusions here. Yes, technical innovation and deployment remain essential to prosperity in the 21st century, but the fact is, America isn’t leading either wired or wireless deployments. We lag on speed, we lag on price, we lag on availability. The facts make these kind of arguments awfully hard to swallow. The President has asked the FCC to use Title II, while Tom Wheeler favors the hybrid approach, but no decision has been made at this time.<br />

Mozilla moves closer to releasing Firefox for iOS

For the wonderful Firefox diehards, iOS platform has always been a bit of a sore spot, awwwww, it hurts. Mozilla dabbled on Apple’s platform a few years back with an app dubbed “Firefox Home,” but the company in question has largely shied away from iOS due to Apple’s restrictions surrounding rendering engines & more other reasons. Now, Mozilla is changing course, and bringing a version of Firefox to iOS running WebKit — Gecko be damned. Can this strategic decision help turn the table in Mozilla’s favor, or is the move to WebKit a nail in Firefox’s coffin?<br />

Earlier 2 weeks ago, Mozilla’s Johnathan Nightingale announced the development of Firefox on iOS to the audience at Mozlandia in Portland, Oregon. Later on, a short blog post went up at Mozilla.org confirming the move onto iOS. The company is still in the early days of development of this release, so details remain relatively sparse for the time being until now. At this point, not even the development team knows what the final product will look like or what role it will play..<br />

Firefox iPad Frankly, this announcement came in as a surprise to all. A year ago, Mozilla stood strongly against Apple’s hardheaded refusal to allow alternative rendering engines on iOS. Now, Mozilla seems totally willing to play ball in exchange for access to Apple’s massive user base. If i'm to guess right, this is happening due to the tepid response Firefox OS has seen since launch.<br />

Well, Of course it is very possible that the WebKit engine may end up serving as little more than a fallback by the time this finished product sees the light of day. Other browsers like Photon and Opera can use the cloud to render web pages, and that seems to successfully skirt around Apple’s strict rules about third-party rendering engines on the iOS device itself. If Mozilla is up for the challenge, a fully-featured Firefox browser could potentially make its way to iOS with Gecko intact. Is that worth the massive overhead and potential technical issues, though? Not too worry, surely Only time will tell.<br />

If you want to see Firefox on iOS for yourself, you can head over to the official Mozilla GitHub page, and download all of the latest code. You’ll need to compile and sideload the app onto the iPhone yourself, but at least you’ll get a nice window into the development process. Just remember, the developers clearly warn the public not to “get too attached to this code,” because there will almost certainly be huge overhauls before it’s ready for public consumption.</div>

At a media event in New York just last week, the HP manufacturing company showcased its Multi Jet Fusion technology, it is one that leverage's the company's strength in inkjet paper printing, also using massive 3D print heads that can handle up to 10,000 nozzles at a time, amazing right? The result? The HP company says; is a 3D printer that can print out objects 10 times faster and with more precision than today's high-end machines, which typically use a method known as selective laser sintering, one that uses lasers to heat and fuse powders.<br />
<br />
Contrasting other products, the HP's Multi Jet Fusion technology uses a print bar that jets out 350 million drops per second with a precision of 21 microns, which allows the printer to generate 1,000 new gears in three hours. This process starts with a material coating process, then later followed by the application of fusion agents using a print bar that scans over the material. The Next step is that the materials are detailed before being exposed to an energy source for the final fusion. Using selective laser sintering, it will have to take 83 hours to produce the same number of gears, says HP.<br />

HP enjoys a solid reputation before and more now in the traditional printing industry, but they have seen 3D printing, which has yet to take off into the mainstream manufacturing industry, as a potential way to expand its business. HP also says that it has  other plans of expanding the business beyond the use of thermoplastics and create new printing materials such as metal and ceramic. We are also hoping that they can accommodate the full spectrum of colors it already uses for traditional ink and paper printing.<br />

"As we examined the existing 3D print market, we saw a great deal of potential but also saw major gaps in the combination of speed, quality and cost," HP senior vice president for inkjet and graphics solutions Stephen Nigro, says.<br />

He also added by saying that after the examination of the current 3D printing technologies they are developing, HP decided that the best solution is to take advantage of its home grown inkjet technology to create a 3D printer that can rapidly build layer after layer of fused material into whatever object one wishes to create. You don’t even have to link a bank account.”<br /><br />Although PayPal is apparently mentioned in the code, Aude said he didn’t see a PayPal option when he tried it out. Only debit cards can be used in the present incarnation, he said — no credit cards or bank accounts — and there are only person-to-person transactions. Payment between multiple participants is mentioned in a note as a later option, Aude said.<br /><br />The transaction is made via an ACH electronic transfer to the checking account of the recipient, although it’s not yet clear how the recipient’s bank account is entered. Directr, an app released as at 2012, has been bought by Google a couple of weeks ago...<br />This Directr is a mobile application company that provides users with the ability to create beautiful and short movies on their phones in just a matter of minutes. The app automatically edit/sync your videos on your phone and make moving and sharing such videos very easy for everyone. It is very important to <a href="http://www.kokocomputers.com/2014/04/what-is-recycle-bin-and-what-are-its.html" target="_blank">Delete </a>any Un-used Applications, I'm wondering why i will still be keeping some applications that doesn't fall on my nitch on my phone, surely they will be occupying space at the same time reducing my speed....<br />You can remove any un-used app from your mobile, by going to settings > applications > select the application and select uninstall..<br /><br />2. While some of us may switch off our phones at night and power on our phones in the morning, like myself i dont do that.. So for those of us who allows our phone to stay on all through the night, its a good thing to restart the phone in the morning before usage.. This will help to release occupied memory spaces due to opened <a href="http://www.kokocomputers.com/2014/05/amazing-microsoft-programs.html" target="_blank">programs</a> and as well boost your mobile from hanging from time to time...<br /><br />3. Try to Delete all Irrelevant Apps, sometimes we may open a friends phone and see that there are lots of apps in it, wow we praise them and are glad, but we fail to know that adding all such apps are not what really matters. Imagine having more than one Antivirus, DU BATTERY BOOSTER AND THEN HAVING BATTERY SAVER, whats the point ?? SWAG ? Hell no, SIMPLY DUMB.. Another way for increment of phone speed is saving some Apps to Memory Card (SD card), for those with big memory spaces like 4GB, GB, 16GB, 32GB..When an APP is Saved to the memory card it creates free space for the mobile inbuilt memory and this will enable the phone carry out all other tasks easily and with speed..<br /><br />6. Try to Delete Read & Sent Messages, especially those from service providers like, MTN, AIRTEL ESPECIALLY, ETISALAT, GLO... SMS'S from these service providers can occupy and shocking amount of your memory, at some point they may occupy 35, 40kilobytes. MTN business tips can occupy up to 1MB. Now imagine you have up to 200 of such messages, what will be happening to your mobile then ? Unlock any phone - U.S. House passes bill to allow mobile phone unlocking

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">Have you ever bought a cell phone on one carrier and then tried to use it with another carrier? Unfortunately, as you all would probably know, it doesn’t always work out the way you want with carrier restrictions, and others, plus we all know the drill. Oh, i could do it if i really want to, but then getting ready to “jailbreak” your phone has already been declared and noted as illegal at least in the United States as at May 2012 or so. Can we actually call it legal after buying the phone? After all, it’s my phone, its your phone, could be your mum's phone or even Dad's – it’s may not be the wireless carrier’s phone – so why shouldn’t i, why shouldn't you, why shouldn't we be able to unlock it to use with whatever network we want? And so, It appears all that’s left before it’ll become law is for President Obama to sign it, thereby completing its journey.<br /><br />This is absolutely a welcome great change as sometimes people like me and you really desire to change our network and have until now been (legally) unable to do so. It’s a big enough problem changing wireless providers without having to worry about getting another phone, especially if you’re happy with one you already have.<br /><br /><br />Hmmmmm, your so gonna love this because the President of the United states has himself signed into law, <a href="http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2014/08/01/answering-publics-call" target="_blank">(SEE FOR YOURSELF)</a>, a bill that allows all American's who desire to unlock their phone can do that with ease.... Which simply means that i, you and we can decide to choose our own carrier.<br />As many of us know, Unlocking  of phones was made illegal as at the first month of the year 2013, when an exemption  to the DMCA expired. The bill CALLED the bi-partisan bill, was passed last week by the  U.S. House of Representatives, after already being approved by the  Senate for all US citizens who wish to can go ahead and unlock their phone. As it’s called, the Unlocking Consumer Choice and Wireless  Competition Act is only active until 2015, so we're hoping it is extended more than that as time goes on...<br /><br /> For now, it  ensures that we all have a choice in matters of our mobile device, our carrier and all that as long as our phone is compatible with that particular carrier’s network you so desire and you’ve  complied with your previous contract. And so, even if you don’t fancy  yourself as technologically able to do this yourself, the bill permits or allows you to feel free and seek help from external bodies, maybe friend, relatives that are capable or equal to the task..<br /><br />Hey my friend, whats holding you back ??? Create, rename or remove a desktop shortcut in Windows

Sometimes we may create a shortcut for some of our favorite programs for us to have easy access, some other times while the installation process of a <a href="http://www.kokocomputers.com/2014/05/amazing-microsoft-programs.html" style="background-color: blue;" target="_blank">program</a> goes on there is a Command prompt that asks for creating shortcuts in the desktop background... Whatever way the case may be, there are 2 simple ways to create a desktop shortcut, we are going to see how to.<br /><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>As i have mentioned before, the desktop shortcuts can be just any file, any application or any folder on your PC. So, the steps for each will surely differ slightly but note that the main/basic procedures remains the same..<br /><br />lets see how the first method looks like, Well the first thing to do is to locate the program by clicking on the start menu or windows button, all programs and then select the program, if the program is among your recently used program, then click on the microsoft windows button and locate the program there..
